It's been a busy week for Apple news. Steve put the kibosh on Mac App Store rumors, while the Gizmodo/iPhone story may lead to the biggest test case yet for determining whether journalist shield laws apply to bloggers.

Despite the flurry of news, we found time to review FileMaker 11, the latest version of one of the most popular database applications for the Mac. We also added yet another terminal trick to our collection of ways to modify OS X behavior.


Steve Says 'Nope' to a Mac App Store
The good folks at MacStories are reporting that Steve Jobs responded to an email inquiry about a possible Mac App Store from Mac developer Fernando Valente. Fernando asked his Steveness:

"There's a rumor saying there will be a Mac App Store and no software without authorization from Apple will run on Mac OS X. Is that true?"... Read more

Enable XRayFolders for a Preview of a Folder's Contents
When you invoke Quick Look on a folder in earlier beta versions of OS X 10.6, the folder's contents are revealed, with individual thumbnails of each file in the folder displayed in an animated slide show within the selected folder's icon. Pretty nifty, huh? For some reason, Apple chose to disable this functionality in the shipping version of Snow Leopard. Are Gizmodo Bloggers Journalists?
Gizmodo, the web site that recently purchased a prototype iPhone lost at a bar, and then published information about the prototype, including tear down images and design details, now finds one of its bloggers under scrutiny by local law enforcement.
