From Kyle Phillips, your Guide to Italian Food
Went to a Ferrari and Maserati meeting organized by Pierfrancesco of Fattoria Sant'Appiano in Barberino Val D'Elsa. Fascinating and one rarely sees a collection of rumbling sports cars this rich; the only thing that surprised me was that the cars were almost all new. Nothing from the 70s or 60s, and this surprised me. After admiring the cars we drove to the fattoria, which also boasts an excellent restaurant (pictures of the antipasto will be forthxoming), and then there was (for me) the main event, a vertical of Pierfrancesco's top wine, Monteloro. Quite interesting, and I especially liked the opportunity to taste 2002 and 2003, both difficult vintages that put winemakers to the test. They did well with them, and it was a very nice, slightly alternative Sunday.

The Cold Cuts Gallery
Though it is slow in coming spring is making its nearness felt, and one of the nicest things about spring is the opportunity to eat outside. If one has time, it's great fun to fire up the grill, but a simple sandwich can be nice too, and Italy boasts an extraordinary variety of cold cuts and processed meats.
