From Arthur Levine, your Guide to Theme Parks
This fish-out-of-water story has legs. When The Little Mermaid debuted in 1989, it was a watershed moment for Disney animation. The long-moribund division returned to form, experienced a rebirth, and went on to produce some of the most popular films, animated or otherwise, of all time. Some 22 years later, the enduring film still resonates. And it is now enshrined as the inspiration for a new dark ride that just debuted at Disney California Adventure.

Disneyland's New Little Mermaid Ride
Part of the ongoing $1.1 billion makeover of the second park at Disneyland Resort, The Little Mermaid ride is not an in-your-face, blow-your-socks-off tour-de-force. Instead, it is a gentle and sweet ride in the grand Disney tradition of Peter Pan's Flight and it's a small world (sic). Read my review of The Little Mermaid ride.

Disney's Car Lot

At the event celebrating the grand opening of The Little Mermaid- Ariel's Undersea Adventure and Star Tours- The Adventures Continue, the Disneyland folks offered a sneak peek of Cars Land, the new area based on the film, Cars, that is under construction and will be debuting in 2012. The sheer scale of the area impressed me. Read more.
