It seemed much hotter today that the car thermometer said -- felt like the high 30s (high 90s F) when it was actually just 32, which is barely 90. Must have been the humidity.

In any case, when it's hot and muggy, one of the nicest options is frise, Apulian doughnut-sized rings of bread split open and dried. As is they're hard enough to crack a tooth on, but you soak them briefly in water, set them on your plate, drizzle them with freshly chopped tomatoes and olive oil, season with salt, ground hot peppers in oil, mozzarella (if you want) and salt, and enjoy. Wonderfully refreshing!
