| | In most families, there's a fairly good likelihood that both the parents and the kids (and grandparents, for that matter) are fans of the Indiana Jones movies. This summer, visit a cool exhibition that displays amazing props from the movies and also offers some real-life learning about history and archaeology. The place to do this is Montreal: a terrific city to visit in summer, vibrant with outdoor cafes, festivals, busy bike paths, and general joie de vivre. | | Indiana Jones and the Adventure of Archaeology, in Montreal This creative exhibition -- presented by the National Geographic Society -- can be seen at the Montreal Science Center until September 18, and then will travel in Europe and Asia for several years, so take the opportunity to see it now. Dozens of props are on display for each of the Indy movies, and each visitor gets a hand-held device that can cue up content about the exhibits: choices include movie clips and "behind the scenes" stories, and real-life history about the ancient cultures that are the background for the movie "artifacts". The exhibition has authentic ancient artifacts on display as well. | Top Things to Do in Montreal in Summer Montreal is a great destination for family vacations: many visitors feel like they've been transported to Europe once they're immersed in Montreal's centuries-old architecture and unique culture, with French spoken around them. (Overheard cell-phone conversation: "You can save so much money, you don't need to go to Paris, just come here!") Note, however, that English is widely spoken: English-speakers will have no problem. Explore Old Montreal's quaint lanes, visit kid-friendly museums, bike for miles along a waterway lined with leafy trees... The city's got miles of bike lanes in summer-time. | Summer Solstice Celebrations Speaking of summer: June 21st marks the official beginning of the season in the northern hemisphere, and is a date beloved by many of us because it's the day of the year with the most hours of daylight. People can even bask in 24 hours of daylight and midnight sun, if they're at a far northern latitude. Many places take the opportunity to celebrate with parades and festivals. | Disney World Raises Prices Finally, a bit of recent news: Disney World has raised the price of a one-day ticket to $85 for visitors age 10 and up.
