From Linda Garrison, your Guide to Cruises
I've headed north to Alaska this week and will be joining the small ship Mist Cove of The Boat Company on Sunday. As many of you know, Alaska is a wonderful summer time cruise destination. Let's take a look at some of the amazing things to see and do on an Alaskan cruise.

Small Ship Alaska Cruises with Cruise West
Numerous ships of all sizes travel Alaskan waterways. A few years ago, my husband and I did a small ship Alaska cruise on the Cruise West Spirit of Yorktown. We loved the casual onboard atmosphere and the spectacular sights of Alaska. On the small ship, we were able to visit smaller towns and narrower fjords and get closer to wildlife and glaciers.

Mid-Sized Alaska Cruise with Regent Seven Seas
Cruising Alaska on a mid-sized ship like the Regent Seven Seas Mariner allows passengers the opportunity to have a traditional cruise experience, with more restaurants and lounges, larger cabins, and more diverse common areas than on a small ship. Passengers still get to embrace the beauty of Alaska, but in more luxurious surroundings.

Juneau, Alaska
Juneau is the only state capital in the USA that is inaccessible by car. The city of about 30,000 residents is perched on the southeast coast of Alaska on the Inside Passage. With the Mendenhall Glacier nearby, Juneau offers many excursion opportunities for Alaska cruises.

Riding a Dog Sled Across a Glacier
I've been on many shore excursions, but this was my favorite in Alaska (and one of my favorites anywhere). It started with a helicopter ride from Juneau to the top of a glacier and ended with a dog sled ride - a truly memorable afternoon.
