Vegetarian Holidays

From Jolinda Hackett, your Guide to Vegetarian Food
The first of the end-of-year holidays is here! Halloween, which falls next to the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead, Dia de los Muertos. That means Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years aren't too far away. And Hannukah comes early this year! Are you ready?

Staying healthy at Halloween
It's one of the funnest holidays we celebrate all year. And also one where food plays a central role. Staying healthy at Halloween? It's not impossible. Here's how:
  • A healthy, vegan or sugar-free Halloween?
  • Sugar-free cookies for any occasion
  • Staying low-fat for Halloween

  • Dia de los Muertos
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is an important holiday in Mexican culture and is celebrated across the US anywhere there's a large Mexican population. It just so happens to fall directly after Halloween!
  • Making Dia de los Muertos sugar treats
  • Candied Mexican pumpkin - a traditional treat!
  • Learn more about the Day of the Dead

  • The easiest, most stress-free pumpkin recipe in the world
Print it out, share it with friends, pass the link around, favorite it, bookmark it, make it your homepage. You're going to want to keep this recipe handy for whenever you need a holiday-themed treat fast. And I mean FAST.

    Message board banter
Some interesting stuff happening in the forums, as always. Haven't checked in lately to join in the banter? Here's what you've been missing out on:
  • Vegetarians not invited! An online "food expert" gives a reader horrid advice. Throwing a dinner party? Just forget to invite the vegetarians and have them round to watch a movie later. Outrageous! Or at least I thought so!
  • Win free Halloween candy Vegan Halloween candy, that is. What's not to love?
  • Vegetariam Times internship Learn about a great opportunity for budding food journalists.
  • Where're you from? A typical online forum thread - one user wants to know where in the world everyone else is located.
