From Teresa Plowright, your Guide to Family Vacations
Before anyone yells "Sharks!" let me clarify that whale sharks are a very different type of shark than the "Jaws" variety: whale sharks are filter feeders who eat plankton and tiny sea creatures.

Swimming with Whale Sharks, near Cancun
Imagine snorkelling up-close-and-personal with these gentle giants, who can grow to be over 40 feet long. Visitors to Cancun have an excellent opportunity to swim with whale sharks from June to September, and especially during July and August. Even kids as young as five can share the experience.

Labor Day Weekend 2011
The last long weekend of summer is coming up, and many cities celebrate with parades, free outdoor concerts, and family-friendly festivals. Meanwhile, many resorts lay on a weekend package with end-of-summer fun such as poolside BBQ's and kids' activities.

Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort Volun-Tour Program
Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort has a "Give & Get" program going on: guests who give some of their time to a local project will get a discount on their stay. This resort has a great spot on three miles of white-sand beach at the southwestern tip of Florida; features for families include a kids' club, "Baby Butlers", and a playground designed for tots.
