From Kyle Phillips, your Guide to Italian Food
The Pellegrinaggio Artusiano has been over for a few weeks now, but continues to attract attention -- a number of people I met at Vinitaly asked about it and there is talk of organizing something similar next fall, though not Artusian -- perhaps a walk through Chianti vineyards during the harvest. Which would be quite interesting, and safer too, as it is possible to cross almost all of Chianti on little-trafficked dirt roads. We shall see!

So far I have put up the photos from the first two meals and you will find links below.

Il Pellegrinaggio Artusino Day I
We had this meal at the Grand Hotel Terme in Castro Caro, and never have I regretted forgetting to pack a bathing suit more. My Pilgrim friends who did have suits made so much noise splashing about in the spa that the director turned out the lights! And it was a nice, nice meal.

Il Pellegrinaggio Artusino Day II
Day 2 was a longer walk, steadily climbing the Valle del Montone, through towns whose current major attraction is fall truffles. One could do much worse, and though it did cloud over by late afternoon, it was very nice walking weather with beautiful views. The dinner was in a very traditional place called the Vecchio Convento, and it was a fantastic meal.
No, in case you were wondering, we didn't loose any weight despite walking 15-20 miles per day.

Fragole! That's Strawberries
Time was that strawberries were a rare treat, tiny bursts of flavor gathered in the forests when the conditions were right. And the best strawberries still are, in my opinion, the wild ones you occasionally come across as you hike in the woods. Problem is, they're so good the chances are you'll eat them on the spot.
Fortunately for us, commercial growers have managed to develop varieties that can be raised...

Fiori di Zucca Fritte - Fried Squash Blossoms
It seems a bit soon, since we're not quite to Easter, but Easter is late this year and there are already zucchini with blossoms on their ends in the markets, and blossoms too. Perfect for frying, and very, very hard to beat.
