From Teresa Plowright, your Guide to Family Vacations
Easter weekend's here already, which means lots of celebrations and special events: Easter Egg hunts, parades, tea parties, Easter Egg rolls...

The White House Easter Egg Roll
What a great name for an event. Rolling colored eggs on the White House lawn has to have an interesting history, and in fact this tradition goes back over 130 years. Today, tickets are given out by an online lottery. In addition to racing Easter eggs on the White House Lawn, kids enjoy other activities such as storytelling and a visit with the Easter Bunny.

Hersheypark in April
Easter weekend means a three-day or longer break for many schoolkids, which makes a good opportunity for a getaway. One notable destination is Hersheypark in Hershey PA. Hersheypark doesn't fully open until closer to summer, but each April guests can preview this popular amusement park on two weekends. (And hopefully there are plenty of Hershey chocolate Easter eggs available.)

Hurricane Season 2011 Forecasts
April also brought an update from the experts at the Tropical Meteorology Project at Colorado State University, who do long-range forecasts for hurricane season. The outlook isn't too cheery: "We continue to anticipate an above-average probability of United States and Caribbean major hurricane landfall." Still, thousands of families will have great trips to Caribbean resorts at summer rates, and there are a few strategies for reducing hurricane risk.

Family Package at Casa de Campo
Speaking of Caribbean resorts... Casa de Campo is a pretty big resort in the Dominican Republic: as in, 7000 acres, legendary golf course (one of three), and a recreated Italian village with amphitheater that seats 5000. Have a look at a pirate-themed summer package for a family of four.
