Coasters Fit for a King--an Intimidated King
Sure, the Planet Snoopy area is adorable, and the park offers plenty of fun for guests of all ages and levels of bravado; but Kings Dominion is primarily about the thrills. Screams emanate from every corner of the park as riders challenge a wild arsenal of coasters, including one of the world's tallest and fastest thrill machines, Intimidator 305. This week we're shining About.com's Theme Parks spotlight on Kings Dominion.
| Fun with Funnels
Not to be confused with him. Or him. Or him. The highly popular Aquatica water park adjacent to SeaWorld Orlando recently opened Omaka Rocka (which means "rocking river" in the South Seas), a water slide on which riders soar into mini-funnels. Most funnel rides, such as High Anxiety at New Jersey's Mountain Creek, feature one giant funnel that sends passengers careening up and down its sides, but Omaka Rocka has a series of three mini funnels. | The (Sonic) Boom is Off the Rosa
Officials of Ferrari World, the racing car-themed indoor park now under construction in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, made it official last Thursday by setting its opening date for October 28, 2010. The park also confirmed that it would feature the world's fastest roller coaster, which it has dubbed Formula Rossa. According to the announcement, the launched coaster will travel at speeds up to 240 km/h (149 mph). Yikes! Read more about Ferrari World and Formula Rossa.
