From Kyle Phillips, your Guide to Italian Food
I Spent much of the past week in Piemonte tasting Roero, Barbaresco and Barolo, the three great Nebbiolo-based red wines of southern Piemonte. 2007 for Roero and Barbaresco, and I was much impressed by a number of 2007 Barbaresco wines. It's an interesting, somewhat skittish vintage. Barolo was instead 2006, and was good but quite variable across the appellation, with the Comune of Barolo's wines being softer and riper, while La Morra's Barolo was much more powerful and acidic. These were the extremes; Serralunga was also powerful though a bit smoother, and I much liked some of the wines from the town of Novello. It will require selection, so you get the style you like, but there are some truly excellent wines coming.
