From Tom Nelson, your Guide to Macs
Ever wonder which applications other Mac users install? I was making a list of the 10 applications I always install on my Mac, and that got me wondering which applications other users install first. So, I did what any Guide here at About would do: I asked other Guides. The lists they gave me were chock full of interesting applications. Some were new to me; others were being used in a way that hadn't occurred to me.

After you read about the applications the Mac-using Guides here at About use, and the 10 I like to install first, let us know which Mac applications you install.

About Guides Share Their Must-Have Mac Applications
Many of the Guides here at About use Macs to get their work done. So, with a little bit of fanfare (You do hear music in the background, don't you? Or is it just me?), here is our list of must-have Mac applications presented by each About Guide who uses a Mac... Read more

Calibrate Your Mac's Display For Accurate Color Reproduction
Nowadays, just about everyone works with images. We keep a library of photos on our Macs; we print images using color printers; and we use digital cameras that can make capturing images as simple as point and click.

The problem is that the devices in the chain - your camera, display, and printer - aren't working in the same color space. They haven't been calibrated to ensure that a color remains the same throughout an entire process, no matter which device is displaying or producing the image... Read more

This easy-to-use backup system not only lets you restore your Mac to a happy working state after some cosmic cataclysm engulfs it, it also lets you ever so easily restore individual files or folders you may have accidentally deleted... 10 Applications I Always Install on My Macs
Whenever a new Mac shows up here, or for that matter, whenever I reconfigure a Mac or install a new OS, one of the first things I do is install this base group of 10 applications.

My list of 10 must-have applications doesn't include any of the major productivity applications, such as Microsoft Office or Adobe Creative Suite, that most users rely on for their daily tasks. I'll install them later, but they're not top priorities. Instead, the applications and utilities I install first are designed to provide a framework that will make it easier to use and manage my Mac... Read more
