Read more | Apple Downloads: Transforming Into a New Mac App Store? Last week I wrote about the Apple Downloads site for third-party Mac applications, which is undergoing some minor changes. Specifically, the links to the downloads site on Apple's support site and main page have been taken down, although you can still access the downloads site using direct URLs. I also noted that no new downloads had been posted since late March. Now another piece of the puzzle has fallen into place. The server used by ADC (Apple Developer Connection) for uploading new applications has been down for a while, which makes it impossible for developers to upload new applications, and which explains why no new updates have been posted at the downloads site... Read more | Remove Duplicate Applications From the 'Open With' Menu The 'Open With' menu lets you open documents using a different application than the one associated with the document type. One drawback of the 'Open With' menu is that, over time, it can get very long, as you install and remove applications on your Mac. It can also start to display duplicates of applications. For instance, my 'Open With' menu displays four entries for Photoshop even though I only have one version of Photoshop on my Mac. Resetting the 'Open With' menu will remove duplicates and ghost applications (ones you have deleted) from the list. You reset the 'Open With' menu by rebuilding the Launch Services database your Mac maintains...
