From Arthur Levine, your Guide to Theme Parks
My son married a lovely woman from Spain, and my family and I recently traveled to her hometown for the wedding. While in the country, I got to visit a park that's long been on my must-see list: PortAventura. Located near Barcelona, the charming park features themed lands such as China and the Far West (it's a bit odd for an expat park journalist to see the Spanish interpretation of the American Old West), a new Sesame Street area, lots of wonderful restaurants, and good shows. And it doesn't skimp on the thrills.

Furius Loco-Motion in Spain
Case in point: Furius Baco, one of the world's fastest roller coasters. This is not your padre's coaster. Catapulted out of the station at a face-melting 0 to 84 mph in 3.5 seconds, Furius Baco takes control and never lets up. Designed for speed--and nothing but speed--the coaster makes one giant loop around the Mediterrania section of PortAventura. With no hills and virtually no elements, save one twist, to slow its momentum, the ride maintains its insane speed until its brakes mercifully slow it down just before it returns to the station. Read my review of the hill-less, virtually element-less, speed-crazy ride.

More from Under the Sea
As a follow-up to last week's review of the new Little Mermaid ride, I posted a photo gallery of images from the attraction. See some of the charming scenes and sophisticated animatronic characters who reside under the sea (and next to Paradise Pier in Disney California Adventure). There is also a picture of Jodi Benson, who sang the signature song, "Part of Your World," at the grand opening ceremony for the ride a couple of weeks ago.

Disney Dollars Dinged
You can escape to fantasy worlds at Disney World and Disneyland (including going under the sea at the new Little Mermaid ride), but you can't escape the harsh reality that all of that Disney-Imagineered fantasy comes at a price. And the price just went up.

Escape to The Great Escape
The Six Flags park in Lake George, New York still retains the charm of its storybook park origins, but also includes great coasters and a water park.
