From Kyle Phillips, your Guide to Italian Food
This was not the best of summers in Central-Northern Italy, with cooler temperatures and occasional very heavy rains. Nor has fall brought improvements; lat week we got 5 inches of rain (just what the grapes needed) in the space of a couple of hours. No flooding, at least, so we're better off than Milano, where the Seveso (which flows under city streets) burst its confines and flowed into the new subway line -- for the second time in 2 months. Obviously, the people who planned the subway line underestimated the Seveso, and the Milanesi are furious. Rightly so, and if you look at the videos under Seen Here and There you will understand why -- this is Italy's industrial and economic capital, and should be able to deal with rains. Even heavy rains.
