Fun Places To Go

From Teresa Plowright, your Guide to Family Vacations
Summer's already so yesterday, it's time to get into the spirit of crisp autumn weather. Head to New England for fall foliage getaways, and throw in some apple-picking (or at least some apple-pie eating.)

Pick Apples in New England
Autumn means apple harvest time in New England. Plan a getaway that includes some time at a pick-your-own orchard, which will probably also offer some on-site fun such as hayrides or hiking, plus goodies such as fresh-baked cider doughnuts or apple pie...

More Fall Weekend Getaways in New England
"Leaf-peeping" is the big draw in autumn in the New England states, but families can also fit in some kiddie-fun such as visiting a corn maze or a pumpkin patch.

"Great Pumpkin Patch Express" and Other Train Rides
Speaking of pumpkins... Various types of Halloween trains will start pulling out of the station soon, and at least one "branded" type of ride repeats at multiple tourist railroads. The Great Pumpkin Patch Express Train" features characters from the Peanuts comic strip. (The Peanuts TV special, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," is a Halloween classic that repeats every year.)

Disney Moms Panel Search
Finally, some news for Disney-philes: Mickey's looking for experts for the 2011 Walt Disney World Moms Panel (- dads welcome, too.) Throughout the year, the Panel fields questions online from would-be visitors to Disney World. Find out how to apply to be on the Panel -- you can apply online starting Sept. 13 2010, but be quick because the cut-off date is Sept. 17th.
