Tsukimi means moon viewing in Japanese, and tsukimi on the night of August 15th on the lunar calendar is called Jugoya which falls on September 23 in 2010.

Traditionally, dango (round dumplings) and satoimo (taro potatoes) are offered to the moon on Jugoya. Tsukimi dango are usually plain and are piled up in the shape of a pyramid.

How to Make Dango
Round dumplings are generally called dango, and kushi dango means skewered sweet dumplings. Kushi dango coated with sweet soy sauce based sauce are called mitarashi.
