From Kyle Phillips, your Guide to Italian Food
Just got back from Verona, where I was tasting the wines of the newly released 2007 vintage of Amarone. It was a fairly difficult vintage, that yielded wines that are a bit softer than usual, for the most part with very ripe fruit (towards prune), and with fairly low acidities. I Did taste some I liked, however, and had occasion to taste a number of 2006 Amarones as well.
2006 was a much better vintage, and though they were very young, they were also very good. In short, the 2006, which is now in stores, is worth thinking about for special occasions -- ideally in a few years' time, but if you have to drink them now you will enjoy them. Just less than you will in the future.
