From Teresa Plowright, your Guide to Family Vacations
Looking ahead to Thanksgiving and the holiday season: the legendary -- and very family-friendly-- Atlantis Bahamas resort has packages during these peak periods...

Atlantis Bahamas Thanksgiving Weekend and Holiday Season
The Atlantis is a larger-than-life kind of place with jaw-dropping waterslides, shark lagoons, a river float that goes uphill, giant underground aquariums with Atlantis theme, a marina, a casino... The Atlantis also has plenty for families: kids' pool and waterplay areas, a giant kids club designed with the LEGO company, the CRUSH Club for teens... The Thanksgiving Special offers 4th and 7th nights free as well as an airfare credit; the Christmas Getaway offers similar airfare credits, plus room discounts of up to 30%.

Thanksgiving Parades
Speaking of Thanksgiving... New York City isn't the only town to have a Thanksgiving parade -- though its annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade definitely dominates the scene.

Montreal: Magic of Lanterns Plus Halloween Fun
Meanwhile Halloween fun is reaching record levels... Pretty much every place where families go -- from theme parks to kids' museums -- puts up the decorations and puts on the spooky fun. Check out dozens of Halloween events. Montreal has a popular set of events in October at its Botanical Gardens: Halloween activities include the Great Pumpkin Ball, and visitors can also see the annual "Magic of Lanterns" display, with illuminated full-size figures and boats lighting up the pagodas and pool in the Chinese garden area.

Day of the Dead- Riviera Maya
Don't let the name fool you: the Days of the Dead ("Dias de los Muertos") in Mexico are a colorful tradition, and children's favorite time of year next to Christmas. The Days of the Dead span our Halloween and continue through November 1st and 2nd. In some popular tourist destinations -- such as the Xcaret eco-theme park and Playa del Carmen in the Mayan Riviera -- visitors can experience festivities.
