Back Up Your Startup Disk Using Disk Utility
You may have noticed that I'm always reminding you to back up your Mac. One way to do that is to use Apple's Time Machine application. Time Machine can back up your important files and folders, but one thing it can't do is create a bootable clone of your startup drive.

There are a number of applications that can make bootable clones; two of the most popular are Carbon Copy Cloner and SuperDuper. Often overlooked is Disk Utility. In addition to troubleshooting and fixing some problems, Disk Utility can also make bootable clones of a startup drive. Even if you use a third-party app, it's a good idea to at least be familiar with how you can use Disk Utility to create clones. Why? Because Disk Utility is included on the bootable install DVDs or the Recovery HD of the various Mac OS X distributions. View Hidden Folders on Your Mac Using Terminal
You probably already know that your Mac has a few well-guarded nooks and crannies that hold folders that are invisible to the naked eye. Apple hides some folders to make it more difficult for the average user to accidentally make changes to or delete important files the operating system needs.

There's an easy way to make these hidden folders visible in the Finder, so you can see what treasures they contain. More importantly, some Mac troubleshooting tips require access to files in these hidden folders.
