Fun Places To Go

From Teresa Plowright, your Guide to Family Vacations
Spring skiing is in full swing at Colorado ski resorts, and -- given the late date of Easter this year -- will continue well into April. Even upscale resorts offer bargains to visitors, and spring is the best time to find promotions, including passes for next season.

Promotions & Events, at Keystone, Vail, Beaver Creek...
Keystone, Vail, Beaver Creek, and Breckenridge -- four distinctive ski resorts in the Colorado Rockies-- are all part of Vail Resorts. Families are more than welcome at all the above, and at upscale Beaver Creek kids even get their own gondola and restaurant -- not to mention the warm cookies served by a chef every afternoon at the base of a main lift. Read more about these ski resorts, and about spring bargains, concerts and festivals.

New Museum Apps
Apps are everywhere these days: the ski resorts above have an app called EpicMix that tracks how many vertical feet guests ski or board. Museums are introducing apps as well. The American Museum of Natural History in New York, for instance, is a "not-to-be-missed" attraction, and visits there can now be enhanced with audio, text, and video thanks to a free "AMNH Explorer" app. Explorer can also sense a visitor's location in this giant museum, and give step-by-step directions to exhibitions, cafes, restrooms...

How Does Your Family Use Kids Clubs?
During spring break, thousands of kids are trying out the kids clubs at beach resorts or hotels or on cruise ships. Kids clubs vary widely: many beach resorts have the "friendly little club" type, while at the other end of the spectrum are multi-program kids clubs with creative activities for different ages. How does your family tend to use kids clubs? Do the kids usually disappear for hours, or just dip in for an activity or two? It's easy to cast a vote in this poll (or to peek at how others have voted.)

Disney Earthquake Donations, Fantasyland Expansion
And finally, a nice piece of Disney news... About.com's Guide for Theme Parks reports that the Walt Disney Company is giving $2.5 million to the American Red Cross for their efforts in Japan. Disney will also match employee donations to several organizations, up to $1M. Disney has a direct connection to Japan, due to the Tokyo Disney Resort that includes Tokyo Disneyland theme park.

He also reports that Disney's made some changes to its major expansion of Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom theme park -- that classic area, beloved by little kids. The first phase of the expansion is due to open in 2012.
