Fun Places To Go

From Teresa Plowright, your Guide to Family Vacations
October's such a great month for a weekend getaway, with beautiful fall foliage in many regions, and fun Halloween events at every type of attraction from theme parks to museums to botanical gardens.

Halloween Events
Halloween parades, train rides, spooky fun at theme parks, haunted houses, events in Orlando, DC, New Orleans, Southwest US...

Howl-O-Ween at Great Wolf Lodges
Hotels and resorts are definitely into the Halloween fun, as well. Many have special weekend packages, most have Halloween decor; and some do much, much more. Great Wolf Lodges, for instance. Great Wolf Lodge is the big name in indoor waterpark resorts, with a dozen locations and several signature features (in addition to terrific indoor water parks): Grand Lobby with animated Clock Tower, nightly storytime... and "Howl-o-Ween" throughout October.

Days of the Dead, in Mexico
Don't be put off by the name: the Days of the Dead ("Dias de los Muertos") are a lively tradition in Mexico, and children's favorite time of year next to Christmas. Dates are Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, and in a number of places tourists are welcome to watch the traditions and festivities.

Disney Dream - New Cruise Ship
And on another note... Disney-philes may want to start booking cruises on the new Disney Dream cruise ship, which starts sailing in late January 2011. Cool new features include the AquaDuck Water Coaster, with turns, drops, rapids, and an uphill stretch.
