From Kyle Phillips, your Guide to Italian Food
Just got back from a couple days in Irpinia, which is a part of Campania inland from Naples, in the Province of Avellino. We were tasting the latest releases of Taurasi, one of the great Italian red wines, and I was much impressed by the 2008 Taurasi wines, which were quite fresh and quite rich. Perfect wines for hearty roasts and stews.
We also tasted a number of 2002 Taurasi wines, which were from an extremely difficult vintage. They were wines for wine geeks like me -- and though they were, on their way out a number still had something to say, and were the sorts of wines you dig out when wine critical fanatic friends of the sort who talk to what's in their glasses come over.
