Roller Coasters

From Arthur Levine, your Guide to Theme Parks
Oh. My. Goodness. Anticipation for the 2012 park season is boiling to a fever pitch, and it's only November. The new roller coasters that await those of us who crave their thrills are among the most exciting batch to debut in a long time.

New Coasters Waiting in the Wings
Unique concepts (such as the two "wing" coasters taking shape at Dollywood and Six Flags Great America) and insanely tall and fast rides (such as Leviathan at Canada's Wonderland) are among the highlights. You can drool over these and a whole bunch of other wonderful thrill machines (and pine for spring and the opening of the seasonal parks) in my Roller Coaster Ride Guide 2012.

How About Some Super Deals?
Super committee blues? How about some super deals? With the congressional "super committee" throwing in the towel this week in their mission to trim the US deficit (really, is anybody surprised about this?), the stock market has plunged. Once again, it would seem, the economy is going to H-E-double-hockey-sticks in a hand basket. But that may be good news for vacationers.

As has been the case for the last few years, theme parks continue to offer some pretty terrific deals to drum up business during these financially challenged times. If you've got the finances to book a theme park vacation, I've got the latest deals, discounts, and offers for both California and Florida. With the glum news, an escape to a theme park might be just the ticket. Here are some of the deals I've dug up:

Get Out the Red and Green Bricks

Legoland Florida, which had its grand opening a few weeks ago, will be presenting a holiday event, albeit a relatively low-wattage one. (But, hey, did I mention it just opened?) Kicking off December 8, the park is calling its event Christmas Bricktacular. There will be a nightly lighting of a Christmas tree fashioned out of Legos. Santa -- an actual one, not a Lego facsimile -- will be on hand. (You may want to advise your kids to refrain from asking the Lego Santa for K'Nex toys.)
