Weekend Cooking - Fried Chicken
Earlier this week, I saw the excellent Film "The Help" - I had to agree with one of the maids when she said, to paraphrase, that fried chicken just makes you feel better about things. In this Hawaiian fried chicken recipe, plump nuggets of chicken are coated with a batter made with sweet rice flour (available in Asian markets), spring onions and soy sauce.

Trout With Black Bean Sauce
In many areas late August is prime trout fishing season. In this recipe, a pungent sauce made with Chinese fermented black beans lends flavor to steaming trout.

Chocolate Fortune Cookies
Fortune cookies are fun to make, but they are a bit labor-intensive. If you're going to go to the work of making them anyway, why not add something extra by dipping the baked cookies in melted chocolate?

Kiwi Smoothie
While kiwifruit may be synonymous with New Zealand, another name for this fuzzy, egg-shaped fruit is "Chinese Gooseberry." This refreshing smoothie pairs kiwifruit with tahini.
