From Robert Silva, your Guide to Home Theater
Welcome to the Weekday Edition of my Home Theater Newsletter! First up, I would like to thank all those that submitted nominations for the About.com Readers' Choice Awards. I am currently sifting through the nominations and putting together the final voting ballot. The final voting starts on February 11th and runs through March 8th. I will have detailed info in Friday's newsletter. Also, don't forget your Valentine! Check out my great Valentine gift ideas.

Firmware Updates and What They Mean for Home Theater
Did you purchase or receive a Blu-ray Disc player as a gift this past holiday season? If so, you probably noticed a sheet packed in the box, or a section of the user manual, that discusses how you can upgrade your player via a "firmware or software update process". To find out more about Firmware Updating, as it relates to your Blu-ray disc player and possibly your other home theater components, check out my article: Firmware Updates and Home Theater. Boxee Box by D-Link - Product Review
The Boxee Box by D-Link connects you with friends to see what TV shows, movies and online videos that they are watching and recommending. Boxee's approach to a network media player/media streamer is as unique as its oddly-shaped design. For more details, read a review of the Boxee Box by D-Link, as reported by About.com contributing writer, Barb Gonzalez. Photo (c) D-Link

Atlona HDMI to Cat5E/6 Ethernet Cable Converter Kit
Although HDMI carries audio/video signals using a single cable connection, one issue is that it is effective only over short distances, unless signal boosters are employed. This is a problem when using HDMI in home theater and whole house audio/video installations where connection distances of up to 100 feet or more may be required. To solve this, a converter can be used that allows signals that normally travel via HDMI to travel over the Cat5E or Cat6 cables used in computer networks. How to Set Up Home Share in iTunes and Apple TV
Home Sharing is a feature that became available in iTunes version 9. Home Sharing makes it easy to connect to the other iTunes libraries in your home network so you can stream and share--actually copy--music, movies, TV shows, apps, and ringtones. To play iTunes music and movies on a second generation Apple TV, Home Sharing must be activated. For all the details on how to activate Home Sharing in all your home computer's iTunes libraries, and how to connect your Apple TV into the mix, check out an illustrated step-by-step on How to Set Up Home Share in iTunes and Apple TV by About.com contributing writer, Barb Gonzalez.
