Best of Europe

From James Martin, your Guide to Europe Travel
Today's newsletter is about some less-touristed parts of Europe--but very interesting places indeed. Brussels is known as a place for European business to be transacted--but it has a lot to offer the tourist, too. And Bobbio? It's a place in Italy that once was a major repository of Italian knowledge--and is being touted as the background for Leonardo's famous Mona Lisa.

Brussels Travel Guide
Brussels doesn't have much of an old town visible in its urban fabric, but substituting for the lack of medieval eye candy is a plethora of interesting museums, a fine cuisine, and all the beer, frites, and chocolate you can put up with. Discover the best of Brussels with our latest article.

Bobbio Pictures
I figure Italy is getting trampled to death by tourists concentrated on the must-see places; they're swimming in the Trevi fountain and wearing down the trails of the Cinque Terre. Well, now some art historian is eying little Bobbio as the background of the Mona Lisa and we all have a new place to trample, a place that celebrates the consumption of the common garden snail in December. Come to think of it, it does appear that old Mona has just gulped down her first snail in Leonardo's masterpiece, doesn't it?

Avignon Pictures
See the 14th century Palace of the Popes and the 12th century Avignon Bridge in compact Avignon, the capital of the famous Cote du Rhone wine region.
