| | It wasn't all that long ago that roller coasters topped out at relatively wimpy speeds of 60 mph or so. Heck, most grandmas go faster when they drive their Buicks on the interstate. Some of today's speed demons, however, offer truly face-melting rides. In fact, six of the speediest thrill machines exceed 100 mph (and one more member of the triple-digit club is due to open later this year). | | Go Speed Racers! 10 Fastest Coasters. Do you have a need for speed? Want to test your mettle against the world's speediest metal behemoths? The world's 10 fastest roller coasters are all made of steel (no wood coaster currently cracks the list), come in a variety of designs, and use an assortment of launch systems to catapult their rides into the record books. Hold on tight, take a deep breath, and check out The World's Ten Fastest Coasters. | Kingda Ka- One of the World's Fastest Coasters Less a roller coaster and more a thrill machine designed for bragging rights, Kingda Ka is, in my opinion, a one-trick pony. It does a good job helping readers discover ways to find value and stick to their budgets when they plan their meals at the Mouse. Another new book, The DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining, covers cost-conscious and practical issues such as budgets and restaurant reservations as well, but it also focuses on the dining experience with plenty of recommendations about where and what to eat at the vast resort. Among the jettisoned cell phones, sunglasses, iPods, and the occasional set of false teeth are lots of wallets, cash, and coins. What if the parks could collect all of that tossed money and donate it to a charity? That's something akin to what the Coaster Radio.com team has developed with its inspired campaign, Theme Park Change. | | | | Theme Parks Ads | | | | Featured Articles | | | | More from About.com | | | | | | Discover the Disney Dream Disney's newest cruise ship has something for every family member, from the Aqua Duck watercoaster to adults-only lounges.
