Jewelry on Legends of the Silver Screen

Audrey Hepburn in Roman HolidayIt's apparent that much of the jewelry worn on the silver screen is similar to the styles we wear today. Audrey Hepburn's necklace isn't too different from current red carpet necklace trends, even though she wore it in 1953 while portraying a princess in the classic film, Roman Holiday. Some of the other jewelry would be considered gaudy by (most of) today's standards (like Joan Crawford's glorified cowbell necklace from 1930). But Marilyn Monroe's earrings, Lauren Bacall's bangle bracelet and many other pieces are timeless styles that would be "safe" purchases for a classic jewelry collection. Take a look back at twelve legends of the silver screen. Would you wear their jewelry?

Princess Diana's Jewelry
Princess Diana wore many types of jewelry, but a few components and styles were constant: pearls and chokers. She wasn't afraid to combine jewelry to create a new look that differed from the original piece, or to wear jewelry in unconventional ways (like the emerald choker Diana wore as a headband during a trip to Australia in 1985). Take a look back at some of Diana's jewelry, beginning in 1980.

Kate Middleton's Engagement Ring
It's almost time for the British Royal Wedding of the new century. A recent announcement revealed that William doesn't plan to wear a wedding band. But fiance Kate Middleton is sporting the 18 carat blue sapphire and diamond ring that once belonged to Prince William's mother, Princess Diana. Here's a close look at the ring on Kate's finger.

Royal Tiaras
There's been quite a bit of speculation about the style of tiara that Kate Middleton will wear on her wedding day. Perhaps it will be the Spencer Family Tiara that Diana wore when she married, or the Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara that once belonged to Queen Mary. A style like the image in this shot, a tiara that belonged to Princess Margaret, is probably too fussy for a wedding ensemble, but the Royal Family seems to have an endless supply of tiaras for Kate to choose from.
