From Teresa Plowright, your Guide to Family Vacations
As some of you know, Family Vacations is just one of over 700 topics at About.com. The Travel Channel alone has over 70 topics, and the Cities and Towns Channel covers dozens more great places to visit. Which is why we're able to offer a global look at New Year's Eve celebrations, many of which welcome families.

New Year's Eve Celebrations
Check out this gala collection of New Year's Eve events worldwide, brought to you by our About.com Guides. A number of destinations offer "First Night" events for families.

First Night New Year's Events
"First Nights", by the way, are low-cost family-friendly New Year's Eve events that focus on the performing arts. Typically, guests purchase a button that gives unlimited admission to short performances put on at multiple venues. Venues are usually within walking distance of one another, and the performances might be dance, music, storytelling, mime... Hundreds of cities have First Night events.

More Family New Year's Eve Events
Families can count down to midnight in some creative ways. Panama City Beach has a "Beach Ball Drop"; in Hershey PA, a giant Hershey Kiss goes up; at LEGOLAND California, a huge LEGO brick gets "dropped" and fireworks celebrate an early "midnight" at 6 p.m.

New Year's Eve in Orlando
Naturally, there are big-time New Year's Eve celebrations in Orlando. Our About.com Guide for Florida Travel has the scoop, and covers the big night at other Florida destinations as well.
