From Arthur Levine, your Guide to Theme Parks
2012 will be an incredible season for new coasters. We've already taken a peek at some of the wild thrill machines headed our way including Leviathan at Canada's Wonderland, Skyrush at Hersheypark, and X-Flight at Six Flags Great America. To help us make it through the long off-season, let's get the lowdown on another extraordinary coaster: Shambhala at PortAventura in Spain.

Make Tracks for Spain
With a daunting 256-foot drop into an underground tunnel and a top speed of 83 mph, the mountain climbing-themed new coaster will take thrills to soaring heights. Read more about Shambhala at PortAventura.

Fast and Furius Baco
Speaking of PortAventura, here's my review of the park's highly unique launched wing coaster, Furius Baco.

Six Flags Over Chardonnay
Here's an odd pairing: a wine tasting event and...Six Flags? It's happening this weekend

A-Haunting We will Go
Sure, the Halloween season wound down this past weekend. Theme parks may have packed up their cobwebs, ominous graveyards, and other spooky artifacts, and sent their zombies, demented clowns, and assorted monsters back to the netherworlds from which they came. But many permanent rides and attractions of the bloodcurdling persuasion still remain. Thrill rides, mostly in the form of coasters, may be the kings of the midway, but dark rides have long played an important role -- the princes of darkness? -- at parks. Like coasters, great dark rides elicit screams, but they are more chills- than thrills-based. Want to know which parks have the spookiest, scariest rides? Check out my rundown of the Best Haunted Attractions -- if you dare. M'wa ha ha!
