Six Healthy Whole grains
Numerous studies show the benefits of eating a diet high in fiber, and what better place to get that fiber than with healthy whole grains? But the benefits of eating whole grains go well beyond fiber. They've been shown to be effective in lowering cholesterol, and they're perfect for eating on a budget, whether you're eating vegetarian, vegan or not. Several whole grains are gluten-free, and all are low-fat, depending, of course, on how they're prepared. Here's a quick introduction to six types of whole grains.

Grain salads
Now that you know all about whole grains, here's one of the simplest ways to use them - in a grain salad. If you like quiona salad, tabbouleh or rice salad, you'll enjoy browsing through this collection of high-fiber low-fat meal ideas, such as wild rice salad with cherries and Mexican bulgur pilaf (pictured).

Vegetable Stir-fries
grains can be a meal unto themselves, or they can be paired, like rice and noodles, with a variety of curries, sauces or mock meats. One perfect pair for your healthy whole grains? Stir-fried veggies! Pictured: Broccoli and vegetarian "sausage" stir-fry
