From Jolinda Hackett, your Guide to Vegetarian Food
Trying new foods is one of the best parts of being vegetarian and vegan. Make it a game - every time you go to the grocery store, pick up one thing you've never tried cooking with before. Here's a few suggestions:

Brown rice syrup?
Have you ever tried brown rice syrup? Brown rice syrup is a vegan and gluten-free liquid sugar substitute that can be used in baking and cooking to sweeten foods with less calories and to avoid the use of refined sugar.

Nama shoyu?
In Japanese, nama means raw (or unpasteurized) and shoyu means soy sauce. Nama Shoyu is raw, unpasteurized soy sauce popular amongst those following a raw food diet.

Sunchokes?
What are sunchokes? Wondering about those funny little tubers labeled "sunchokes" or "Jerusalem artichokes" at the store? Sunchokes, also called Jerusalem artichokes, are an edible tuber that grows underground, much like a potato.
