From Arthur Levine, your Guide to Theme Parks
It's not scheduled to open until May, but I got a sneak peek at Disney's Art of Animation Resort, the latest hotel at Walt Disney World. Like Disney's other Value Resorts, Art of Animation will feature oversized statuary and whimsical themeing; in this case, the Disney and Pixar films, Finding Nemo, Cars, The Lion King, and The Little Mermaid will provide the inspiration.

Disney's Art of Animation is Sweet-Looking Hotel

Unlike Disney's other Value Resorts, Disney's Art of Animation Resort will be the first to offer family suites -- which I think is a great idea and overdue for Disney World. And the Value price should be appreciated by visitors on a budget. I got some shots of the Finding Nemo courtyard, which is still under construction, but mostly finished. See Nemo, Marlin, Crush, and more in my mini photo preview of Disney's Art of Animation Resort.

Giving Families a Fair Shake at Parks

Cedar Fair may not be as much of a household name as Disney or Six Flags, but as the parent company of Cedar Point, Knott's Berry Farm, Canada's Wonderland, and ten other properties, it is one of the major players in the parks industry. Its new CEO, Matt Ouimet, is a Disney parks veteran who served as the president of Disneyland as well as the Disney Cruise Line. According to an AP story, he says he'd like to bring some of the warmer and fuzzier family-friendly touches of the Mouse to the coaster-crazy parks he now oversees. If that sounds familiar, it's because another former Disney employee, Mark Shapiro, tried to bring a similar family focus to thrills-laden Six Flags during his tenure from 2005 to 2010 as CEO of the chain.

Epcot Pizza Takes a Lot of Dough

Ever since word got out that Via Napoli, the new Italian restaurant that opened this past summer at Disney World, had pizza that cost $39 and featured flour imported from Italy and well water with the same characteristics as acqua in Naples, I've been dying to try a slice to see if it lived up to the hype. Last week I made it over to the Italy pavilion at Epcot and ordered a pie. The verdict is: meh.
