Theme Parks Theme Parks Find Theme Parks Water Parks Roller Coasters From Arthur Levine, your Guide to Theme Parks About.com's annual Readers' Choice Awards kick off today, and the Theme Parks site will be participating for the second year. There are a few wonderful park awards programs out there, but what makes About.com's different is that the focus is exclusively on new achievements. Not unlike the Golden Globes or the Academy Awards, we will be showcasing the best that parks had to offer last year. And you, dear readers and park fans, will be choosing the best. It's Time to Nominate Your Favorite Parks. Starting today, you can nominate your favorite parks in seven categories: Best New Theme Park Attraction of 2011 Best New Theme Park Show of 2011 Best New Roller Coaster of 2011 Best New Water Park Ride of 2011 Best New Park Food of 2011 (new category!) Best Theme Park Halloween Event of 2011 (new category!) Best Theme Park Christmas Holidays Event of 2011 (new category!) After the nominations period closes on February 15, five finalists will be determined for each category. Voting will begin on February 22 to crown the champions. Green Lantern at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Cheetah Hunt at Busch Gardens Tampa. Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags Over Georgia. Untamed at Canobie Lake Park New Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas. (Note that, while the 2011 ride shares a name and location with the original Texas Giant, it was changed substantially and therefore qualifies as a "new" roller coaster for the awards.) After hobnobbing with Cinderella, Princess Aurora, and other crowned heads at the Magic Kingdom, why should the royal treatment end when families return to their hotels? Starting this March, little princesses and princes staying at the Port Orleans Riverside will be able to continue their pageantry -- provided Mom or Dad book one of the new Royal Guest Rooms.
