I just finished Haruki Murakami's The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle (our Guide to Contemporary Literature gave it a lukewarm review, but I couldn't put it down), and have now moved on to David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas. Unless you're a fan of frostbite and shoveling snow, there really is no better time of year to stay indoors and catch up on some reading.

Seven Books to Read This Winter
A hot cocoa-drinking protagonist, a thriller set during the cold, dark days of a Swedish winter, and a period drama that, according to our Guide to Bestsellers, "is like a good coat -- heavy, comfortable, and something that you need day after day": In one way or another, all of these books successfully invoke the moodiness of winter.
