Irish Potato Candy
I had two fun cooking projects last weekend. The first one was for my daughter's math class on Monday. Math, food - where's the connection you might ask? Well, Monday was Pi Day and math teachers like to use this as an excuse for a party. I was volunteered to make Key Lime Pie, one of our favorite pie recipes. The other project was making Irish Potato Candy. It's become a tradition in this house that the first thing we do in preparation for our St. Patrick's Day Celebration is to make this tasty treat. And you can't mess with tradition!

When I was at the 2011 Philadelphia International Flower Show earlier this week, I was able to spend a little time among the numerous floral and plant vendors. The selection was overwhelming, and I could probably have spent an equal amount of time among the vendors as I did among the displays, but time was limited. However, I did find one vendor, Chive, that had the most interesting selection of vases. Some were perfect for single buds, others for larger bouquets. But I also thought they'd make interesting party favors if you placed one at each guest's setting. | Cook Up a Taste of Ireland this Week
I have a lot of things happening this week. It's my parents' birthdays (Happy Birthday Mom and Dad!) and my daughter's first drama performance at her middle school. But there's one event that is enjoyed by many more people than just my family - St. Patrick's Day! That's why I'm planning to make at least a few meals with a taste of Ireland this week. As a born and bred Italian cook, I'm very happy I can turn to Ireland's famous chef, Rachel Allen, for inspiration in cooking Irish cuisine in her delicious book "Favorite Food at Home by Rachel Allen."
