Have you had renkon? Renkon is lotus root which has lots of holes. It's traditionally believed that we can look through the holes to a good future in Japan.

Renkon is often cooked in dishes served at happy occasions, but it can be used in daily cooking. Kinpira renkon (braised renkon) is a good dish to serve for breakfast.
