| | Fear is a big part of Six Flags' appeal. Ultimately, it's all about fun. But that sense of apprehension we get when we stare up at one of Six Flags' diabolical roller coasters, and the feeling of mastery we experience when we disembark one of the beasts fulfill some primal urge lurking deep within our psyches. The Six Flags parks provide safe havens for us to conquer our demons. And at Halloween time, the Fright Fest events at Six Flags parks give us even more demons to conquer. | | Letting their Freak-out Flag Fly The Six Flags parks will present the usual Halloween mashup of haunted houses, mazes, musical shows, scare zones, and re-themed rides. But one attraction, which debuted at one park last year and has been expanded to two (Discovery Kingdom in Northern California and Six Flags Over Georgia), caught my eye: Last Ride. For an extra fee, guests are invited to be "buried alive" in a coffin, complete with the sounds, scents, and sensations of having dirt shoveled on them. Claustrophobics (like me) and otherwise sane people may want to opt out of that Six Flags ride. Anyhoo, here's the rundown for this year's events: 2011 Six Flags Fright Fests. | Wanna Save Some $?
