From Linda Garrison, your Guide to Cruises
Eastern Europe is a fascinating part of the world, filled with history and interesting cultures. Those of us who are old enough remember the "eastern bloc" and former link to the USSR. Today, these countries are embracing their first decade of new freedoms. Join me on a Viking River cruise up the Danube River from Bucharest to Nuremberg.

Cruising Up the Danube River in Eastern Europe
How many readers have sailed through the Iron Gates of the Danube or visited five European capitals in one cruise vacation? My journal details our Danube experiences at cities, towns, and natural sites in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, and Germany and includes links to over 300 photos taken along the way.

River Ship Profile - Viking Neptune
The Viking Neptune is a typical European river ship -- low, long, and narrow. This shape is necessary for navigating the canals and bridges of Europe. Join me on a pictorial tour of the cabins and common areas on this comfortable Viking ship.

Viking River Program Managers Share their Experiences
I love learning about new places, and two of our excellent Viking program managers shared their experiences of life in Romania and Slovakia. Both Simona and Marek helped to personalize the dramatic changes in their countries over the past two decades.

The Rocks at Belogradchik
Belogradchik is found in northern Bulgaria about an hour's drive from Vidin on the Danube River. This small town has amazing rock formations, similar to those you might see in the Southwestern USA. These rocks also form the basis for an ancient Roman fort, parts of which still exist. If you visit Belogradchik, climb to the top of the rocks--the view is worth it.
