| | As a travel writer, I get asked two questions often: 1) Where's the best place to go? and 2) What's your favorite place for holiday? I can't answer the first because there is no one "best" place. And what I think is best, you may disagree. But as for my favorite places... | | #1 Destination: Iceland There truly is no place on earth like this country. The people, the terrain, the culture are all unique (and wonderful). What I liked best about Iceland is its Blue Lagoon, a magical water spa that replaces stress with bliss. | #2 Destination: Canada It's a big country, so there's more to love. I find the eastern French-accented cities of Montreal and Quebec totally charming in every season. Outdoorsy couples will revel in places out west like Vancouver and Jasper. The only place I don't like in Canada is the one associated with honeymoons: Niagara Falls. It's become the worst kind of tourist trap, so I advise going anywhere but there. | #1 Hotel: Villa by Barton G, Miami Beach, Florida If you can appreciate (and afford) a completely over-the-top little (10 rooms) hotel, you'll love the Villa by Barton G in South Beach. If I tell you the in-room amenity that greeted me was a chocolate fountain surrounded by marshmallows and pineapple and raspberries on skewers, would I need to tell you more? Then click on the link and see for yourself. | #2 Hotel: The Point, Adirondacks, New York Once a private Rockefeller home, The Point sits on a cliff above Saranac Lake and its many activities are water-focused. One of our all-time favorite experiences was skimming across the water in the resort's classic 33' mahogany Hacker-Craft speedboat, the resort's golden retriever keeping us company.
