Hi everyone. The Japanese are busy cooking New Year's food (osechi) in the last few days of December.

Cooking New Year's Food
Many dishes are prepared by New Year's Eve so that we have lots of food to eat during New Year's holiday. Osechi dishes are packed in layers of lacquer boxes, called jubako. Most of the dishes can last a couple days in the refrigerator.

Japanese Recipe of the Week: Namasu
Namasu are Japanese sunomono (vinegared dishes). This is a namasu dish made with with daikon radish and carrots, and it's one of Japanese New Year's food. It's said that daikon and carrot express celebration colors of red and white. Namasu has a refreshing taste and goes with many types of dishes.
