From Arthur Levine, your Guide to Theme Parks
Theme parks specialize in immersing guests into fantasy worlds. So how about some cold-weather fun in sunny California? Folks in SoCal craving some snow this holiday season can get their fix at a surprising number of theme parks. Also this week, let's take a look at the brand new (well, sorta brand new) Legoland Florida, Six Flags Holiday in the Park, and the latest theme park deals.

Snow in Southern California? Yup.
Despite the weather, snow will be in the forecast at Disneyland when the park presents its Believe...In Holiday Magic fireworks show, part of Disneyland's Christmas event. And guests visiting Legoland California, SeaWorld San Diego, and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom will actually get to frolic in some "real" snow. See what else is in store at my Christmas at California theme parks guide.

New Park on the Block
The (sorta) brand new Legoland Florida opened over the weekend. Built on the site of the former Cypress Gardens (and retaining its iconic gardens, among other holdovers), the park is geared to the 12-and-under set. Like its sister parks, it offers lots of interactive, hands-on, family-bonding activities and attractions.

Will it succeed in Florida's congested park corridor? Given the phenomenal success of Legoland California (which, like its Florida counterpart has plenty of competition and is located off the beaten path), my guess is that will do quite well. Read more about Legoland Florida.

Holiday in Some Parks
Let's play word association, shall we? I say "Six Flags." Quick, what's the first thing that pops into your mind? Roller coasters? Bugs Bunny? Overpriced mediocre food? (Hey, Mr. or Ms. Cynical, enough with the attitude, OK?) How about Christmas? Say what? It might seem strange, but the parks that are associated with hot summer days and cooling log flumes are actually open on cold winter days and offer warming Yule logs. Well, not all of the parks. Find out where you can get your Six Flags fix of Christmas, cocoa, and coasters at my Holiday in the Park guide.

Psst. Hey You! Lookin' for a Deal?
One upside to the persistently crummy economy is that parks continue to offer great deals. If you've got the disposable income (granted, that's a mighty big "if" these days), Disney World, Busch Gardens Tampa, and many other parks have enticing offers to get you to dispose it at their properties. Some of the latest offers include:

To learn more about these and other offers, see my updated California Theme Park Deals and Florida Theme Park Deals pages. Then go find some disposable income.
