Best of Europe

From James Martin, your Guide to Europe Travel
The exhibit called "Twilight of the Gods. King Ludwig II" is creating quite a stir amongst the twitterati these days. It uses some of the unfinished rooms in the king's homage to Versailles, Herrenchiemsee Palace, in an attempt to unravel some of the mystery surrounding the enigmatic Bavarian ruler. See below to find out more about visiting the palace.

Herrenchiemsee Palace
King Ludwig II was quite the innovator. He didn't try to Copy Versailles exactly, but to update it to what was then modern standards. The palace sits pretty on an island in Bavaria's largest lake. Find out how to visit it--and when; there are some interesting exhibits and festivals going on this summer.

It's Medieval Festival Time!
One of the joys of travel in summer are the incredible number of festivals that rock Europe's cities and villages. My favorites are those with folks in medieval garb demonstrating the old ways of procuring and cooking food--along with a good athletic competition to round the whole thing out. Take a look at our pictures of the Disfida in Fivizzano, a medieval archery festival, then plan a trip to Tuscany.
