I trust all who celebrated it had a safe and happy new year's Eve. Elisabetta and I joined a cousin who has a couple of kids, and some of their friends, and went to a place on the plain between Florence and Sesto -- A nice meal, music loud enough that my ears are still ringing, and we could see all the fireworks shot by the towns along the Appennini. We got home at 4, the latest Daughter C has ever stayed up!

Almost Wordless Wednesday: Lentils! (And Auguri!)
You might not think of a bowl of lentils as being worthy of a photograph, and at most times of year you'd be right. However, lentils hold a very important place in Italian New Year's Eve (and Day) celebrations: their disk-like shape brings to mind tiny coins, and as such they augur prosperity for the coming year.
