| | Looking for ideas for spring break 2012? Consider these three states: Arizona, Utah, and Colorado all meet at the Four Corners (with New Mexico too) but offer very different experiences. | | Arizona Dude Ranch: Rancho de los Caballeros This family-run and family-friendly ranch near Wickenburg has been welcoming guests since the 1950's. Meals are included, the kids' program is complimentary, and the focus is all about horses -- though guests can also play golf, try the spa, or take a jeep tour into the Sonoran desert. Like most dude ranches, this one closes for the hot summer months, and March and April are prime time for visits. | Colorado Skiing Half a dozen states offer Rocky Mountain skiing but Colorado is the famous one, with celebrity resorts such as Aspen and Vail. The choices in Colorado are stupendous: a mountain base might start at 8000 feet elevation and have a vertical rise of more than 3000 feet. Many of Colorado's ski resorts have excellent kids programs. Bonus: some places have quaint former mining towns. | Family Skiing in Utah Utah doesn't have the famous profile as a ski destination that Colorado does, but it too is an awesome ski destination with a Rocky Mountain range, and boasts that it has "the Greatest Snow on Earth." Utah can also boast about easy access to the slopes: guests can usually take a direct flight to Salt Lake City, and once there, nine very different ski resorts are within a one-hour drive. | Arizona Resorts with Water Parks Swinging back to Arizona, and away from the snow again: another fun idea for families is a stay at a resort with on-site water fun, such as giant waterslides, lazy rivers, and novelty pools. | | | | Family Vacations Ads | | | | Featured Articles | | | | More from About.com | | | | | | Living with Depression By obtaining the correct medical intervention and learning better coping skills, you can not only live with depression, but live well.
