But I like this new twist - a shaman who smudges you on arrival at a beachside Mexican luxury hotel, and a soap concierge who cuts a few bars of hand-made artisanal soap for you. It works because it draws from indigenous traditions, and helps local communities that make the soap.

Along with its shaman and soap concierge, The Tides Riviera Maya has an intimate spa with outdoor treatment rooms and a Mayan Temazcal steam treatment cave. The 30-villa luxury hotel is adding 11 villas in December.
