Best of Europe

From James Martin, your Guide to Europe Travel
We're back from our visit to Corsica. Just in time, too, as Tuscany celebrated ferragosto, the 15th of August when city folks head out into the cool countryside and eat to excess. What do country folk do in the Lunigiana? They stay home, fire up the wood-fired oven, fill it with delicious things like torta di erbe (vegetable pie) and all manner of seasoned pig parts and a couple hours later...eat to excess.

Corsican Sunrise
We really liked our short visit to Northern Corsica. Despite the summer heat, there was always a plane tree with a couple of little tables around it where you could sit down and catch the island breezes while digging into a pot full of mussels and washing it down with a crisp white wine. It was the most relaxing time we've had in a while. See where we stayed to get an amazing view of the Corsican Sunrise over Elba Island.

Where does the budget airline Germanwings fly? What fees do they impose like all airlines do to break free-market price comparison? Here's what you need to know.

Lucca
We've always recommended a bike ride around charming Lucca's stout walls. But there's other biking going on as well. In fact, America's next generation of road racers have settled in Lucca; Taylor Phinney, Tejay Van Garderen, Ben King and Andrew Talansky all live within three miles of each other in the walled city, according to a recent article in the Denver Post.
