| | 2011 marked the first year for About.com's Readers' Choice Awards for Theme Parks. Park fans (like you!) enthusiastically embraced the awards and responded with an impressive voter turnout and boisterous comments and opinions. Thank you to all who supported the awards. Unlike a number of other (great) park awards programs, what makes About.com's a bit different is that it focuses exclusively on achievements in the past year. Think of it as the Academy Awards or People's Choice awards for parks. Categories include best new theme park attraction, show, roller coaster, and water park ride of 2010. There is no prize--just the bragging rights that come with getting recognized by the readers of a leading website owned by The New York Times Co. There also is no ceremony, so nobody has to suffer through any long-winded acceptance speeches. However, I would like to thank my agent, my publicity team, my wife, and of course.... What? Just get on with the awards already? OK. | | Best New Water Park Ride of 2010 Do you think I'm just going to blurt everything out here? No way! Click over to the Theme Parks site to see who nabbed the top spot for best water park ride. | Best New Roller Coaster of 2010 The most spirited competition for the inaugural Readers' Choice Awards for Theme Parks was in the Best New Roller Coaster of 2010 category. It was a see-saw battle that generated tons of votes, lots of comments, and plenty of campaigning from parks and fans. There were some mighty contenders in this particularly strong field. But there can be only one deemed the best. | Best New Theme Park Show of 2010 I don't think you'll be too surprised by the results in this category. Best New Theme Park Attraction of 2010 I do, however, think you'll be quite surprised by the results in this category. By its nature, the Readers' Choice Awards are designed to give readers the opportunity to make their voices and opinions heard. And by extension, they provide an opportunity for parks to rally their fan base and support their nominated entry. One park REALLY rallied its fans. | World's Longest Water Park Ride I've said it before, I'll say it again: The Schlitt's a hit with the fans! The innovative and popular water park with perhaps the longest (and oddest) name will be debuting what it proclaims to be the world's longest water park ride this season. See what Schlitterbahn, in New Braunfels, Texas has on tap. It could be a contender for next year's best new water park ride Readers' Choice Award! | | | | Theme Parks Ads | | | | Featured Articles | | | | More from About.com | | | | | | Discover the Disney Dream Disney's newest cruise ship has something for every family member, from the Aqua Duck watercoaster to adults-only lounges.
